MDGx Posted May 13, August 23rd, , AM 5. I went to the bootdisk. I'll keep looking for that file I guess. If i do find it, where in the autoexec do I put the line? Also, what makes a floppy bootable? I have two floppies which look identical to me for the most part, I can't figure out why one is bootable and the other isn't.
Also, if I make a copy of a bootable floppy, will the new copy be bootable as well? Thanks for your time Like a stream of bat's piss, I strive to be a gleaming shaft of light amid a sea of darkness. August 23rd, , AM 6. Hey Guys, You can put smartdrive. What makes a floppy bootable are 3 files. To manually make a boot disk. Start with a clean formatted floppy, then put it in the floppy drive, then from the C: type: sys c: then press enter Then to the floppy you now add your autoexec.
Then add programs like format, smartdrive, edit, copy, scandisk, debug, move, fdisk, mscdex, etc. Have fun! August 23rd, , AM 7. I know how to make a bootdisk, and have tried the smartdrive file on the disk, along with the reference to it in the autoexec. August 23rd, , PM 8. Stan, I haven't quite gotten as far as you have I'm still huntin down the smartdrv. This DOS stuff kills me!
August 23rd, , PM 9. The entry for ANSI. SYS should be put into the Config. SYS file needs to be on the floppy disk. I'm thinking somewhere in the i directory? The end result is the same for a blank disk, but, if there's any data on the disk and the Format command is used, all of the data will be deleted.
Try searching the hard drive for Smartdrv. If it's on the hard drive, copy it over to the boot disk. You say in windows we don't need smartdrv. Is there a way to do above process with windowsXP service3? Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. Remove From My Forums. Answered by:. Archived Forums.
